Prof John Varghese, the XIII Principal of St Stephen’s College, completed his education at Loyola College, Chennai and the Madras Christian College. He has taught at Loyola College, Chennai, George Mason University’s off shore campus at Ras al Khaimah and was Head, Department of Communication at the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, before taking charge of St Stephen’s College. Prof Varghese has taught in the areas of English Language, English Literature and Media & Communication, but Literature remains his favourite. His doctoral thesis was in the area of Victorian Fiction and Psychoanalysis. He has supervised research work and has also written and edited books in both Literature and English Language Teaching. He also has a special interest in Media and Language Teaching Prof Varghese brings with him substantial experience in both teaching and administration, including International Relations.
